Girls Night Out!

A few weeks ago, Carli came up to me and said that she wanted to talk to me. Then it all came out. She was so sad and didn't know who "she " was. I think that I forget sometimes all that I expect out of her. She is the 2nd mom to the two boys, Nolan's competitor, a 1st grade student, and the only girl in her family,( not to mention all the emotional baggage that she carries around from just being female- so unfair). I think that sometimes she has a hard time being Nolan's shadow (other times she eats it up!) So I thought that it was time for (What will be the first of many) a Girl's Night Out! I called up these lovely gals:

we piled into the ol' mini-van and had a blast! It was good for Carli to have another lil' girl to play with (Just for her- not her brothers). I had been toying with the idea of making a craft (Carli loves crafts- but I don't often get to do them with her). I can remember my Aunt Winnie loved to do ceramics when I was growing up (I still put out the nativity scene that she painted for me every Christmas). So, feeling sort of "artsy- fartsy" we went Here! And Made These:

Carli's Dolphin

Our friend, Leah made a rainbow jewelery box
Her mom, Saralyn, made a mosiac -coat- hook plaque to hang in her room!
So cute!
And I painted this vase. Now I have to get
a flower arrangement to put in it
(Although I am not sure that I am lovin' the way it turned out!)

After we painted, we had ice cream at Mcdonald's where we saw the bishop- (I guess he was having a boys night out cuz he was with the missionaries- hee hee!) As we were painting, Carli said that she was having the best time ever! It made me feel good- and I realized that we need to take these time outs for just us! When it gets warmer, we want to get pedicures. But until then, I don't have any other ideas. Can anyone think of something that we can do- that doesn't cost as much as painting ceramics (not el-cheap-o) that would be fun?

Getting Down and Derby!

(Okay- I'm not that clever- I stole the title from a movie!) Nolan had his first pinewood derby race on Sat.
There were some great competitors!
The pressure was building as they watched!
It was quite exciting!
But in the end, Nolan got 2nd place each time he raced, so I guess overall he was somewhere in the middle (as far as scoring goes.) He got the award for "Best Reptile Mobile" (Did I mention that he is into snakes more than ever , lately?)

He had such a good attitude about the whole thing!
Question- Is it cheating if you make a great race car and then use it every year but paint it a different color?

A Sweet Spirit!

Our Beloved Prophet President Hinckley has left this world. Bless His Sweet Soul for all his work and love to the Lord's church and His people!
Pres. Hinckley said, "In all of Living have much fun and laughter, Life is to be enjoyed, not just endured."
Let us not forget how precious our time is here!

A Snow Day..........From Church?

The weather was getting pretty cold and yucky last night! Jon said, "I wonder if the Bishop will want to cancel church tomorrow." I said, "What- They can do that?" I have never heard of cancelling church due to snow. (Obviously this is NOT Montana!) The roads are pretty slippery and the snow is still dumping down. We are just staying indoors in our jammies (Not doing a whole lot!) We will have to read scriptures with the kids later!

Will there be school tomorrow?

Bridger's snow boots were a good deal- only $2 last season!
(I guess we are gettin' our $'s worth!- I didn't think we would!)

Good thing we bought a snow shovel one year!

We haven't had to shovel our walks for a long time!

AAAAH! Let the 'melting' process begin!

Doin'?

I think of these posts as my journal- (I am embarrassed to say that I have never really kept a journal) Years from now, when I look back and my precious 3 year old who will then be a pre-teen and driving me mad, I want to look back at the dear and heart-felt moments that I have had the pleasure of sharing with his very sweet, little soul.Jon and I think that he is so funny and that he is CONSTANTLY asking you, "What you- doin'?" He will say, "Mom.....MOm...MOMMM.............what you- doin'?" sometimes, he just asks, "Doing?" And the funny part is that he always asks when we aren't doing anything really exciting. Most of the time I am doing something really simple, like pouring myself juice, or sorting the laundry (When my laundry and I socialize- not often) But I have come to the conclusion that he asks for 2 reasons,
#1- He really wants to know
#2- He wants to visit and get your attention to let you know that he is near!

So, when I am super duper old, and I forget what my teeny, shmeeny lil' curtain climbers and what their cutesy mannerisms were like, I want to look back on this and smile, look up at my spouse and say, "Doing?" (And then have a good laugh- cuz he will think that my Alzheimer's just took a turn for the worse!)

Today....I am "doin":
-Go help out in kid's classrooms for 1 1/2hours
-Take Bridger to the library- (I want to look for Harry Potter Books on cd)
-And I will spare you the rest- but it will probably end with picking up the house and feeding Jack!
(I am looking forward to this weekend, cuz Nolan has his pine wood derby races!)

The Wizarding World....At the Jacobs' House?

I have finally just finished this: (#4 out of 7) I don't think that I can tell you just how BIG we are on Harry Potter in this family! (Yeah- I know, we are weird-os!) It has all happened very gradually. First, we saw one of the movies and then another. No big deal! Then the 3rd movie came out and still- not a huge deal. But then the 4th movie came out and around the same time, the kids got Harry Potter computer games of the first 3 movies. Then Jon started reading the books........ then we saw the 5th movie. Then Jon stayed up all night to read the 7th book and missed work the next day (he NEVER misses work!) Meanwhile, I am still plugging through them and have no idea how they end (Please do not tell me!)

For months now- the kids go around with their Harry Potter wands casting spells on everyone (not real wands- just pencils- I know this is dangerous, but we gave up trying to tell them why they shouldn't go pointing "wands" at people and have been enjoying the fact that no-one has gotten an eye poked out yet!) And they are good too. They each know (Even Bridger who is probably the biggest Harry Potter fan) a bunch of spells and what spell has been cast on them and re-act accordingly. It is kinda funny to watch! We had a little boy (4 yrs. old) over last night. By the end of his time here, the kids had him casting and re-acting to spells. I want to get them This for Birthdays, Easter or something!

Here are just some of their favorite spells:

Impedimenta Pronunciation: im-ped-ih-MEN-tah
Description: This hex is capable of tripping, freezing, binding, knocking back and generally impeding the target's progress towards the caster.

Expelliarmus
Pronunciation: ex-pel-ee-AR-mus
Description: This spell is used to disarm another wizard, typically by causing the victim's wand to fly out of reach. It can also throw the target backwards when enough power is put into it.

Descendo
Pronunciation: deh-SEN-doh
Description: The spell likely causes any targeted object to move downwards.

Stupefy (Stunning Spell, Stupefying Charm)
Pronunciation: STEW-puh-fye
Description: Puts the victim in an unconscious state.

Alohomora
Pronunciation: AL-lo-ha-MOR-ah
Description: Used to open and unlock doors.

Things I would do if I were a Wizard/Witch

  • Expect better behavior out of the kids "Keep it up and I will turn you into a possum for an hour, again!"

  • Put an enchanting spell on the house, so that it cleaned itself!

  • Make the laundry disappear! (The laundry and I are currently on non- speaking terms anyway!)

  • Get a house-elf to do the dishes!

  • Eat unusually yummy things like, pumpkin juice, chocolate frogs, butterbeer and fizzing whizzbees!

What Would You Do?

Problem Solved!

Our new dining table came last night and it is LOVELY! I am so satisfied with it!

I love the detail in the legs- We kept the chairs from the other table (you may remember this post) and both the table and chairs have the distressed look!

When I first saw this table, I thought "Why would they make faux lines on top? Now I know- you can have that old farm table look- without having the deep grooves on top to de- gunk everyday! I Love it!

Martin Luther King Day

Okay- so I have had plans all day to post this!- but some things just don't work out like you had planned. The kids were home today and I had to take Carli to the ear Dr. (She had an another ear infection- wait 5 mins and the poor girl might have another one!) and I also had my dinner group to make meals for today-So it is 7:30pm and I am finally getting this posted! Nolan had his play on Fri. It was about Martin Luther King Jr. Nolan was a singer (and one of the best I might add- okay, I couldn't hear just him- but I am his Mom!)
Can you find him? There he is!!!
On Sat.- I woke up and Nolan was making paper boats from a Curious George Book that he read. The boats Quickly turned into hats!Jack looked adorable in his boat/hat!
Hopefully it won't take me forever to create a post tom.

What These Crazy Kids Are Saying These Days!

Back in my day (the 80's rock!)- the word was "rad"-
Everything was rad! If if was really, really rad- then it was totally rad-i-cal!

But, I was in Jr. High before I started using these so- "cool" words!

But my 6-year old daughter is all about cool!
I told her it was time for bed last night! She told me to CHIL- LAX!
I asked her if she knew what that meant! (Since she had no idea- I told her it was a combination of Chill-out and Relax!)- I think that she is watching too much Hanna Montana!
When did kids start to get older at a younger age?

Bath Redo- Finally

So.....1989 called.........they wanted their bathroom back! I told them, they could have it!

Poor Jon lived with a light purple/pink bathroom and sponge- treatment on the walls for too long!
I like real wood in bathrooms- but these wood cabinets were in a declining condition!

Shiny Gold light fixtures are out!

Here is the new Bathroom! We painted the Cabinents, walls, trim and spray painted the light fixtures to silver! (They were a quick- fix for now!) We also framed out the mirrors (They didn't have frames before- just beveled edges) and added more storage behind the toilet!

(Is it tacky to post your toilet on your blogspot?- Well- at least it's clean!)

I loved these big chunky, rustic hooks!

Music Monday-

I decided every Monday- I would add a new song to my playlist. I can remember my Dad listening to this one by Cat Stevens!

My Favorite Words...

Perhaps my favorite words in the English language (or any language for that matter) are:
Clearance Sale
50% Off!

My favorite vendor in an antique store is leaving- so everything is half- off.
I went looking for a night stand for Carli (cuz she needed a drawer to put her glasses in at night) and lucked out and found this one already stressed (so I didn't have to do it- even though someday I will need to paint it black to match her dressers and headboard). I only paid $25 for this nightstand!
The top has darling little shutters where she can put her pics of the Savior.

I wasn't expecting to buy myself one, but it was such a good deal, I couldn't pass it up! I need a cute, lined basket to put on this shelf. If anyone finds any good deals- please, let me know!

Have a Good Weekend!

I hope to have pics of the bathroom soon!
