I have finally just finished this: (#4 out of 7) I don't think that I can tell you just how BIG we are on Harry Potter in this family! (Yeah- I know, we are weird-os!) It has all happened very gradually. First, we saw one of the movies and then another. No big deal! Then the 3rd movie came out and still- not a huge deal. But then the 4th movie came out and around the same time, the kids got Harry Potter computer games of the first 3 movies. Then Jon started reading the books........ then we saw the 5th movie. Then Jon stayed up all night to read the 7th book and missed work the next day (he NEVER misses work!) Meanwhile, I am still plugging through them and have no idea how they end (Please do not tell me!)
For months now- the kids go around with their Harry Potter wands casting spells on everyone (not real wands- just pencils- I know this is dangerous, but we gave up trying to tell them why they shouldn't go pointing "wands" at people and have been enjoying the fact that no-one has gotten an eye poked out yet!) And they are good too. They each know (Even Bridger who is probably the biggest Harry Potter fan) a bunch of spells and what spell has been cast on them and re-act accordingly. It is kinda funny to watch! We had a little boy (4 yrs. old) over last night. By the end of his time here, the kids had him casting and re-acting to spells. I want to get them This for Birthdays, Easter or something!
Here are just some of their favorite spells:
Impedimenta Pronunciation: im-ped-ih-MEN-tah
Description: This hex is capable of tripping, freezing, binding, knocking back and generally impeding the target's progress towards the caster.
Expelliarmus

Descendo

Stupefy (Stunning Spell, Stupefying Charm)

Things I would do if I were a Wizard/Witch
Expect better behavior out of the kids "Keep it up and I will turn you into a possum for an hour, again!"
Put an enchanting spell on the house, so that it cleaned itself!
Make the laundry disappear! (The laundry and I are currently on non- speaking terms anyway!)
Get a house-elf to do the dishes!
Eat unusually yummy things like, pumpkin juice, chocolate frogs, butterbeer and fizzing whizzbees!
What Would You Do?

In reviewing the list of spells it appears that there is one that did not make the list.

HeeHee....If only it really worked........
I had no idea that you are such huge Harry Potter fans. They are amazing books and movies. I've only read the first four so far. I love that your kids practice spells. I'm looking for a spell that, when cast, will cause obedience and room cleaning skills.
Wow those kids of yours are really talented in casting spells.
Just been doing some light reading in The "Mormon Doctrine"
A wizard is a sorcerer, one who has magical skills, who engages in witchcraft, who communes with familiar spirits. The practice of wizardry is an abomination.
I hope President Hinckley quit reading this blog, or else this will probably be one of his topics next General Conference. JK
P.S. This blog Rocks
I don't know who Aaron is but that was funny. I love the wand that your going to get. Rylie was the only one in our family that got into Harry. Mattie just didn't bite. My spell would be for rock hard abs and my own dark chocolate chef. I am mad for the stuff. This will make Deb cringe as she is a milk chocolate all the way.. Your dining table looks great from the living room too. Love the pics.
Kaitlynn, Larissa and Adam are all huge fans. The girls have read the first few books and they are only in 3rd. grade! Kaitlynn has been Herimone Granger for Halloween for two years in a row and they have posters in their room of the Harry Potter Characters. Too fun. I on the other hand haven't gotten into the books. No time!
Hi Terra, Glad you got to get a break, you sure deserved one. You need to do this more often. The mini vacations are good for you. Love, MOM
